Horton Hill Farm raises chickens for both meat and eggs. All of our chickens graze outside in green pastures and sunshine. Keeping our birds on grass allows for a healthier and higher quality product. Eggs from pastured hens can contain as much as 10 times more omega-3s and three to six times the amount of Vitamin D than eggs from factory hens. Our customers tell us that our meat birds are the best. Raising them outside in the grass gives them superior taste and texture. Meat from pasture raised chickens are significantly higher in health promoting Omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E and beta carotene than factory farmed chicken. We do not feed antibiotics to our birds.
The laying hens are managed by our daughter, Kelly. Her flock consists of a variety of heritage and production chickens. The flock includes blue, black and blue wheaten Ameraucanas, heritage breed Delawares, Blue laced Red Wyandottes and any other pretty hen that strikes her fancy. She and her brother also show Blue Cochins, Buff Brahma and Rock bantams.
We are currently in search of the best dual purpose, both meat producer and egg layer, chicken for our farm.
Fertile eggs and chicks are available upon request.
